Andover, NH was settled by some very independently minded frontiers people. Many of the settlers/farmers in the Kearsarge Valley region whose religious beliefs diverged from traditional Baptist, Methodist or Episcopalians of the time moved to the Andover area and made this town one of the unique New England villages to be governed for more than 100 years by members of the Unitarian and Universalist faiths.
